VISTE: A Helping Hand for Our Seniors

Growing older should not mean feeling alone, forgotten, or without support. Yet for many seniors in our community, simple tasks such as getting to a medical appointment, preparing a meal, or leaving the house can become major challenges.
Since 1983, VISTE, Volunteers in Service to the Elderly, has been a quiet and generous presence in Polk County. Its mission is to help our seniors continue living in their own homes with safety, dignity, and independence.
The organization serves thousands of people in Lakeland, Bartow, Mulberry, and Fort Meade. Its volunteers deliver hot meals and groceries, prepare personal-care items, and build wheelchair ramps and safety rails for those with limited mobility.
But VISTE offers something that goes far beyond a service.

Every visit brings companionship. Every delivery represents hope. Every volunteer who knocks on a door reminds our seniors that they still matter and that they are not alone.
Many of these individuals devoted their lives to working, raising families, and building the community we enjoy today. Now, during a more vulnerable stage of life, they deserve to receive the same care and love they gave to others for so many years.

Supporting VISTE means honoring their stories, appreciating their sacrifices, and giving back a small part of all they have given us.
We can help by volunteering, making a donation, or sharing VISTE’s mission. Sometimes, one small gesture can brighten a senior’s day and profoundly transform a life.
